ENCYCLOPEDIA VOL. 1

From the urban depths of the Free City to the frozen steppes of the Septentrion.

The Encyclopedia features four civilizations of the world of Eana, pre- senting their mysteries, history, and magical wonders:
• Free City. The largest city in the world and a thriving melting pot, the Free City is the perfect place for urban adventures. Notables, merchants, scholars and criminals coexist and strive to fulfill their ambitions. 
• Drakenbergen. The heart of Cyfandir, the Drakenbergen are a great mountainous land, well known by the dwarves who control the local trade routes, both on the surface and in the Netherworld. It is a country perfectly suited to the ex- ploration of lost ruins and valleys.

This supplement for Fateforge features detailed maps of territories and cities in the regions of the Free City, the Drakenbergen, the Septentrion, and the Kaan. It can be used by game masters as well as players. Contents include:

Welcome to the Netherworld

For a long time, you have traveled the surface: the streets of the Free City, the mountains of the Drakenbergen, the taiga of the Septentrion, the steppes of Kaan… And through your voyages, you saw entryways into dark, foreboding depths. You wondered where these tunnels might lead; what might live down below… and what might lurk. You remember cautionary tales from your childhood, speaking of evil, treacherous, traitorous peoples, and of the crawling, hideous presence of Canker. …

This time, your path is downward… Your journey may last up to several weeks, and will feature many encounters following two main themes: the Netherworld and Canker.



An Overview of Creatures: Netherworld


Creatures: Netherworld is our studio’s newest creation. This first major supplement of the Fateforge series took two years of work. It is now complete and will be crowdfunded on Kickstarter on May 2nd. To be notified of the campaign’s launch, click here!

Creatures: Netherworld features more than 180 illustrated creatures for all levels, including 150 entirely original ones and 30 great classics with a new spin such as the Aboleth or the Chuul, 5 playable species (Drow, Duergar, Sidhe of the depths, Grimlocks, and Svirfneblins), adventure hooks, new feats and handicaps, 12 original magic items, 8 original archetypes providing you with material to design new monsters for your games… and much more!

Longtime followers of the Fateforge series have already encountered terms such as “Netherworld,” “Canker,” “drow,” “duergar,” and more. The present book is first and foremost a bestiary and toolbox for any subterranean campaign. It fits Eana’s universe, but can just as well be used as material for any other campaign setting.

◾A book that’s part of a series. If you are acquainted with the first Creatures, which went over the Free City, the Drakenbergen, the Septentrion, and Kaan, you will be in familiar territory as far as the book’s layout is concerned. It is split into two main parts (which are detailed below), each spanning several chapters exploring major themes, so that leaders can easily familiarize themselves with specific subjects and construct scenarios focused on them. Each creature has been designed as a source of stories, which can be dangerous, strange, wondrous, or frightening. Appendices catalog perils typical of subterranean natural environments.

◾ A standalone book. Working on the book, we intended it to be self-sufficient, featuring complete and self-standing information, so that readers do not have to constantly refer to other sources. With this in mind, Creatures: Netherworld can be used with Adventurers and Grimoire—the core books of the Fateforge series—or with any other book detailing the 5E rules… Or it can be used as worldbuilding material for any setting where Netherworld creatures would fit.

The Netherworld


The Netherworld is immense, stretching underneath the entirety of Eana’s surface and seas. The comings and goings of purple worms fill it with tunnels and contribute to bringing breathable air to its depths. Through their wanderings, these exceptional beasts open pathways into new lands. Bold explorers venture there, sometimes spearheading the settlement of new communities.

Though groups of surface-dwellers possessed of darkvision sometimes settle belowground, most of the underground population is made of species highly unfamiliar to those who live in the sunlight. Drow, svirfneblins, and duergar are descendants of heroes of the Dawn War who remained trapped in the Netherworld. Simmaïens have inhabited this subterranean realm for so long that they cannot really imagine returning to the surface. As for sidhe of the depths, they are bound to the roots of Eana and to enrooted fey, which are unique to the Netherworld.

Creatures: Netherworld provides plentiful and diverse content. Today, we will go over the five new playable species included within:

◾ Drow, or dark elves, are particularly infamous in the center and east of the Drakenbergen. Tales abound of their subterranean cities, said to be places of wonder and cruelty in equal measure. The reality behind the legend is much more nuanced. 
◾ Duergar, or gray dwarves, are unknown to most surface-dwellers, and many believe them to be extinct since the Mountain King War. And yet, there still exist two highly distinct lineages: abyss duergar, inventors of extraordinary artisciences whose civilization flourishes below the ocean, and oldstone duergar, masters of illusions, settled in northeastern Cyfandir.
◾ Sidhe of the depths are born from rooted maelossas (sites directly connected to living nature—Eana). Due to their sensitive origins, they are permeable to other forces, which has resulted in three different sidhe lineages: root sidhe, abyss sidhe (related to Blackwater), and Nightmare sidhe. 
◾ Simmaïens are the first people of the Netherworld. They inhabited it even before the Fall of the Travelers, and they are split into two lineages: shrouded and enlightened. 
◾ Svirfneblins, or deep gnomes, have kept in touch with their surface cousins. There are two lineages: the rooted, who are deeply connected to Eana, and the exalted, who are by and large city-dwellers.

Canker


Canker is mostly known as the Hideous Scourge, taking shape as loathsome monsters birthed in repulsive Cankerous nests. Some have also heard of Nightmare, which made the practice of trance a matter of survival for elves. These horrific aspects are brought up and explored in Grimoire, but something lesser-known is that Canker is an evolving entity and that it has taken another, dangerously alluring aspect: Sublime.

Part of Creatures: Netherworld is dedicated to this entity lurking in the depths of the subterranean world. Some see it as a deity, others as a cancer gnawing at the world from the inside. Canker takes shape in many creatures of all CRs embodying its two aspects: the Scourge and the Sublime.

Whether your campaign is set in Eana or in a setting of your own, Canker will pit your players against a new major antagonist, as unpredictable as it is deadly.

► What is the Encyclopedia ?
Encyclopedia is a 360-page lore book for your 5th Edition campaign, including dozens of ready-to-use cities, locations, NPCs, plot hooks, and magic items for your next game session.
This toolbox is perfect for veteran game masters who want to level up their homebrew campaign, as well as for beginners seeking readily usable content to begin their first campaign. This book can also be used as a campaign setting to play in a universe steeped in Sword & Sorcery and portraying colorful civilizations.

► I only got Creatures during the previous Kickstarter, but I am now interested in the other Fateforge books and would like to get them. What is my best option?
Take a look at the “Fateforge 5E Deluxe Collection” reward tier for $170. If you only have Creatures yet, this reward tier includes all the items you don’t have, without any doubles. It notably includes the series’s three other books: Adventurers, Grimoire, and Encyclopedia.
Alternatively, you can also just get “Encyclopedia: Printed Version” for $40 and get the rest of what you want during the post-campaign pledge manager phase.

► I have backed the Creatures Kickstarter with an All-In pledge. How can I make sure I’ll get everything new without any doubles?
Get the “Encyclopedia: Collector Pack” reward tier for $70, as well as the “Box” addon for $20, and you’ll be all set! That way, you’ll get the new book in the edition of your choice, all the new items, and all the stretch goals unlocked.

►I am a Creatures backer. Will I get my Encyclopedia rewards delivered simultaneously if I back this new Kickstarter?
Absolutely, that is our objective. All your Creatures and Encyclopedia rewards will be delivered at the same time—in June/July, based on the latest information from our manufacturers. As a Creatures backer, you will be credited $15 during the pledge manager phase to cover the extra shipping fees.

► I am a Creatures backer. I read that I could get a credit of $15 for this new project. How can I obtain it?
You’ll get it automatically! A credit of $15 will be added to your Encyclopedia pledge manager account right after the end of the Kickstarter. Note that you must use the same Kickstarter account (same e-mail). These $15 will cover extra shipping fees, since your Creatures and Encyclopedia rewards will be sent at the same time, at the beginning of summer.

► Certain options like the Creatures Box (Pawns) or the scenarios are not available. How can I get them?
The Encyclopedia Kickstarter itself only features part of the available options. Other options—such as the Creatures Box—will be available during the pledge manager phase, in limited numbers, for logistical reasons. Most of this campaign’s items are already in the process of being manufactured in order to ensure that they can be delivered in July.

► I took the All-In pledge during the Creatures’ Kickstarter and I now feel like I paid more than backers who’ll pick the “Fateforge 5E Tetralogy Collection” reward tier for this campaign. Is this the case?
It’s actually the opposite, since Creatures’ All-In reward tier had many more items: The Butterfly’s Dirge (Print + PDF), The Chronolith (Print + PDF), a set of 4 Battlemaps (Print + PDF), and the Creatures Box (with 200 pawns)… and that’s without mentioning all the stretch goals gathered in the Treasure Box, whose total value is more than $100 ^^ In our eyes, it is normal that early supporters get the best deals.
Note that for anyone who might be interested in getting the complete Fateforge collection, the aforementioned items will be individually available via the pledge manager.

► I am a backer at “Encyclopedia: Collector Pack” (or a higher reward tier). How do I select the covers I want for my books?
You will choose between Standard or Red Dragon edition during the pledge manager phase, after the Kickstarter ends.

► Will I be able to upgrade my reward tier during the pledge manager phase?
Yes, you will be able to do that.

► How can I add addons to my pledge?
Once you have chosen your reward tier, you will get to select addons via a new page. Note that all these addons will also be available during the post-campaign pledge manager phase. This post-campaign pledge manager phase will also gives you access to new add-ons and limited edition Fateforge items.

► I am a retailer, can I back this project?
Yes! If you are a retailer, you can select the $100 “Retailer” reward tier as a deposit. You will be included in the post-campaign pledge manager phase, at which point you will be able to acquire all the items from this campaign with a retail discount (50% off MSRP). The very first printed copies!

Last weekend, we were at the game festival « Paris est Ludique » in Paris, France. So hot over there because of the heat wave but we have so much fun !

We received the very first printed copies of Fateforge books and it's so exciting! We received the visit on the booth of our friends who worked on Detroit: Become Human. Benjamin Diebling is author on Fateforge and helped me on the art direction. Bryan Dechart and Amelia Rose are actors and are playing Vampire: The Mascarade on Geek & Sundry.

FATEFORGE: EPIC TALES IN THE WORLD OF EANA

French Creative Studio Agate Introduces Fateforge, a new RPG and campaign setting for 5th Edition to be Kickstarted in June and prereleased at Gen Con 2019

PARIS, FRANCE (June 10th 2019) – Studio Agate, creator of Shadows of Esteren, the most awarded French role-playing game, presents its new creation, Fateforge: Epic Tales in the World of Eana.

Powered by the 5th Edition ruleset with the addition of many new options, Fateforge features Eana, an entirely original campaign setting. Following the sword & sorcery tradition, the adventurers will travel through grandiose landscapes and interact with exotic, colorful civilizations. By dint of skill, bravery, or cunning, they will overcome increasingly challenging ordeals, and perhaps find their way to the mythical Fateforge and ascend to godhood.

A Kickstarter campaign will be launched on June 24th 2019. The first two books of the series will be available for backing at discounted prices and with exclusive bonuses. The PDFs of the books will be delivered at the completion of the crowdfunding campaign. A 60-page Player’s Guide is already online on DrivetrhuRPG and lets you discover the world of Eana and create your first characters.

Adventurers, the core book of the series, as well as Grimoire, which covers magic and spellcasting, are both scheduled to be prereleased at Gen Con 2019.
